Parasites!

Another project I'm currently working on is a short, full colour comic with my friend Jamie, dealing with his subject of expertise: parasitology.  We're creating an 8 page comic to be handed out for free at the Glasgow West End Festival in June.  The comic is designed to let people know a bit more about the types of parasites that cause malaria, leishmaniasis and sleeping sickness.  In the fair there's going to be a giant trypanosome (cause of sleeping sickness), kind of like a Chinese dragon and these comics will give people a little explanation and context.

I'll post more as it progresses, but in the meantime a little lineup of our parasites...

From left to right: Plasmodium bursting out of a blood cell; Trypanosomes swimming in the blood, and a wee gathering of Leishmania.

Even more exciting is the front and back cover being designed and illustrated by talented New Yorker Rachel Morris.  I'll post her work here at a later date...

Filmish Issue 2: Sets and Architecture.

The second issue of Filmish is now finished and almost ready to go off to the printers.  It'll hopefully be in Edinburgh shops and available online a week on Friday.  In the meantime here's a little taster, plus a lovely review from The Skinny.

Solipsistic Pop

The lineup for Solipsistic Pop Volume 3 has been announced, and I am pleased to say that I am one of the contributors to what will no doubt be an amazing collection of UK comics.  More details will follow in the coming weeks and months as we approach the November release.  The press release follows:

Solipsistic Pop 3 is due this November with a launch party in London taking place before an official release at the Leeds Thought Bubble festival.
Details on the book and previews will follow over the coming months, but for now we would like to announce that Solipsistic Pop 3 is being built as a UK alternative comic anthology that is accessible and appealing to children and young adults. Inspiration for the book is equal parts RAW, DC Thompson, Panini and McSweeneys. More information soon!

'Filmish' in Paper Science.

As previously reported, some of my work featured in Paper Science issue 2, which was released on Free Comic Book day.  By all reports it was a successful release and of the 500 printed, all have been given away.  However, you can still download the collection free here.  I thought I might as well post my contribution here while I'm at it, though don't let that stop you downloading the whole thing: there's spectacular work in there.
